Grew up with a love of music and film.

What a creative wealth I received in my childhood. With a father who played as a bass player in Jazz bands, and a mother who was an idol of films. This has developed a broad taste for film and music for me. A new drive was recently born to paint all my idols that have always inspired me. Many more will follow;)

My icons

Marilyn Monroe

I was about 9 years old when I saw "Some like it hot" and was immediately sold by the most attractive woman I had ever seen. Then I saw her perform in a documentary for a group of soldiers and I soon realized that I was not the only one who fell for her charms. "Happy birthday mr president" .. was something like the first moon landing. How beautiful to paint her in purity.

Johnnie Cash

Johnnie Cash with a sale of more than 90 million records can be counted as legendary. What I find special about him is his stable and unparalleled voice, you recognize him immediately. His charismatic face also resembles Beethoven. With Johnnie Cash I also think of June Carter, that's why I want to quickly make a painting of this famous couple.

Bob Dylan

The Hurricane (my favorite), Blowin 'in the wind, Like a Rolling Stone ect. But Rolling thunder the documentary on Netfilx made the story complete for me. From latent fan to great respect for this man. His white-painted face as in a Japanese Kabuki show gave him a white canvas with which the audience could project everything. Which artist wants to be pushed in a box. This is the idea behind this painting.

Miles Davis

Kind of Blue, I think my father played it hundreds of time when I was a kid. At that time I did not like jazz music, I only came later when I started playing it hundreds time myself. Certainly not everything from Miles I like to listen to, but this also applies to Chet .. How could it be otherwise, a man who reinvented himself so often with a completely different style. I wanted to capture his characteristic face in close-up 'marked by an eventful life'.

Chet Baker

What to say about Chet Baker, I grew up with it. Music that never gets bored and in which you always discover something new. The summer feeling in every tone, instantly recognizable after one note. The documentary "Let's get lost", a must to have seen it, especially because of the atmosphere in which you go through a period of his life as a kind of dream flight. See also my other painting of him with Halema's first wife.

Questions about this painting ?

Thelonious Monk

Monk a real genius on piano and fighter in my opinion, at a time when it was fashionable to play fast, he went against that stream. In the 1940s, he formed an innovative group of musicians to create modern jazz with Charlie Parker, drummer Kenny Clarke, bassist Oscar Pettiford and guitarist Charlie Christian. Similar to the Impressionists at the start of the 20th century, fighting for recognition and creating a new standard in painting.

Charlie Parker

Charlie (Bird) Parker was one of the founders of the Bebop Jazz. Together with Dizzy, Monk and Buddy Rich, Parker formed a brilliant Quintet in the 1950s. Birdland, founded in NY at the time, is still a household name in honor of the genius Parker (Bird). His passion-full musical style, which was based on improvisation, was a true revolution in Jazz.

Billie Holiday

From a very young age I became acquainted with the music of BIllie Holiday, especially my mother was crazy about her. When I look back her music never gets bored, her voice immediately brings the emotions back and is nowhere flat or dull. Billie found herself like an old lady sounding "Me and my old voice". One of my favorite recordings of her is 'Fine and Mellow', this portrait is also a screenshot of it. I have previously painted her on big format with her love Lester Young which is so beautiful to see in the same clip / recording.

Questions about this painting?

Ella Fitzgerald

what to say about Ella, so many prizes won, sung with all the greats, best song interpreter of the more than 250 'Great American Songbook. Famous for her amazing talent for improvisation and scatsing with or without Armstrong. Just an honor to have painted her.

Questions about this painting?

John Coltrane

Coltrane, one of the most important and influential tenor saxophonists. He learned from Monk his fast playing style, which is declared sacred after his death (Saint John William Coltrane). A genius in one word. "A love suprime" the brilliant interpretation of "My Favorite things". His wife Alice a great jazz pianist and haripist with a very unique sound. Earlier I painted Coltrane with Alice.

Question about this painting?

Keith Jarrett

Keith is a fabulous Jazz pianist with a characteristic sound that you immediately recognize as a Jazz connoisseur. Played with greats such as Art Blakey, Charles LIoyd and Miles Davis. Both as a group leader and as a soloist, he impresses with his charismatic non-verbal and verbal expression that you carry and you feel in his playing.
This painting was inspired by an image from one of his performances.

Question about this painting?

Aritha Franklin

"The queen of soul" should not be missing from this list. With her legenadirshe performance of Amazing Grace as only she could bring this. I personally found her role in 'The Blues Brothers' with the song 'Respect' a cherry on the cake. What a woman, what a voice with a warmth that she transmitted to the audience. I want to capture this warmth in this painting of her.

Question about this painting?

Chick Corea

22-Time Grammy-Winning Jazz Legend, pianist and composer that is a title that nobody takes.
Chick Corea, started playing the piano at the age of four. Played with many artists such as Stan Getz, Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock ect. Enjoyment is also Chick Corea & The Spanish Hearth Band. I've always seen him as "Mr. jazz fusion 'for the Latin styles he made. I also appreciate this in Stan Getz.

Question about this painting?

Beyoncé Knowles

was already a Beyoncé fan when Destiny Child was just starting out and was totally flabbergasted when I saw "Grazy in Love" her first solo performance. What a power and energy, clear to me and many to me that this would become a world star. Her role in Cadillac Records, as Etta James proved to me that she can also act well. It was written on her body. What a multi-talent.

Question about this painting?

Louis Armstrong

The clown who wipes his sminck, the breakdown of the market after a busy day, the autumn that gives the trees a rest after a long heat. Louis played his last note after a debilitating tour ... the smile is tired, his lips broken. Peace.

Bill Evans

Bill Evans could make an accordion that almost no pianist could match. His classical background combined with Jazz and his incredible talent for improvisation makes him one of the greatest. He originally played in the background in all kinds of combinations and only later formed his own 'BillEvans trio from which he no longer deviates. After a few tones you immediately hear that it is Evans, Autum Leaves, My foolish Heart, So What, Waltz for Debbie and the beautiful Peace Piece, similar to Chopin or Satie.
